Homework and Reading Logs
Homework will be coming home every Monday in your child’s white folder. Homework should be returned, signed by a parent and labeled with the student’s name the following Monday. Please be sure your child writes their name somewhere on the homework so that I can mark off that it was returned. Reading Logs/Baggie Books started coming during the second week of school. Each baggie has a manila folder for the sight words of the week sent with the homework. The flashcards should be cut out and stored in the manila envelopes. These flashcards should be practiced nightly with the Reading Log books. Please keep the word wall flashcards that are attached to the homework in this envelope. These words should be practiced regularly as these are the words that the students will be responsible for knowing. A blank word wall was sent home (pink) to begin keeping track of new words at home. This should be kept in the baggie and words from the homework should be added each week. This will help you follow along at home with what words we are working towards mastering, or have already mastered. Please continue to practice all word wall words sent home throughout the year, not just the new words each week. Activities on the back of the pink sheet in your reading log can be used to practice the words. Feel free to choose a few activities each week to do as homework with the words. In addition, please see the new Sight Word Homework sent today with the new words on it. The four activities listed should be done each week with the new words and initialed by a parent.
Reading logs should be returned to school EACH TUESDAY and THURSDAY. Students will bring home a new book each night to read with an adult. That adult should record the book and date on the log sheet in the Reading Log baggie. Please keep the log sheet, the laminated word activity sheet as well as the reading strategy sheet in the baggie with the book. If you are missing any of these forms, please let me know. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
